Surrounds The Fern n' Chestnut is located in the middle of the Dandenong mountain ranges which extends from Montrose to Ferntree Gully. The ranges are home to a variety of wild birds and animals including Rosellas, possums, parrots and Liar birds.

The area is home to three major state forests, tea rooms, antique shops, award winning gardens, nurseries (tulip and daffodil bulbs are exported from the area worldwide), and art galleries which are all spread throughout little quaint villages. There are many local restaurants to chose from (French, Irish, Austrian, Chinese or Australian).
